What about this *grace* thing??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church (Real) : One Thread

If you all were raised as was I, then grace is what saves us. Of course, the death of Christ on the cross does indeed save us, for without His death for our sins we could not be saved.

However, I have been reading something about *grace* that sheds new light on that word for me. The point of the message is that Grace is what God gives us that makes us able to have Him dwell in us.

Here are just a few of the examples:

1) The definition of grace is The desire and power to do God's will. We know that those who are not in Christ Jesus cannot discern spiritual things. 1Cor. 15:10.

2) God gives grace (desire and power) to non-Christians to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

3) God gives grace to Christins to grow in Christ. 2 Pe. 3:18.

4) God's grace is given to the humble. James 4:6 and Prov. 3:34.

5) God's grace gives us the desire and the power to keep God's laws-not the freedom to reject them. Tit 2:11-12

6) Discern false teaching about grace. Rom. 6:1-2

Well, these are some thoughts that might give more power to the word Grace, reckon?

Hi, Nelta,

The word 'charis' is translated 'grace' in the New Testament.

It also is translated in various other passages as:

I have always thought it meant unmerited favor, and that we are saved via the unmerited favor of God (we don't earn or deserve salvation because of our obedience, or works (even good ones), but simply because He wants to give us this unspeakable gift of life in His Son.

Of course, we have to repent and acknowledge our sin for this to take place. Our feet are set on a new path, a straight path. If we sin, we have an advocate with the father, even Jesus Christ, our Deliverer.

If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

What a Gift!!!
