Video CDs on Hitachi DV P505 Player

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am new to the subject of producing Video CDs. My hobby is photography and I want to be able to store photos on CD and watch them on TV using my DVD Player. I am using MGI Videowave V5.0 and Roxio Easy CD Creator V5.0. I bought an Hitachi DV P505 DVD Player because it stated that it plays VideoCD in MPEG1 format. I have tried both on CD-R and CD-RW disks but although the player recognises the CD as a 'VideoCD' it will not play. Can anyone help please?

Go to www.vcdhelp.com and look at the DVD Player Compatibility List for your DVD player. All DVD players I know of support VCD, the real question is does your player support CD-R/W? Many do not. If your player doesn't support CD-R/W, nothing you can do will fix that. A lot of us around here have very poor opinions of EZ CD Creator, although if you have a CD-R/CD-RW media problem with your DVD player, EZ CD Creator is not to blame. Nero (www.ahead.de) really is a better program in my opinion. If your DVD player does support CD-R and CD-RW media. you could have 2 more things to blame. 1) Your VCD was not made correctly. I know that photos have to meet certain specs to be valid. www.labdv.com has an excellent guide to using Nero to make a VCD slideshow and it tells what the specs are. Look in the English language section and be prepared to wait a while for it to load. 2) All CD-R/W media is not the same. Cheap no-name brands often cause problems. Some playing problems can be solved by switching brands, but it also can very quite a bit as to which brands work best in which players.

Exchange your Roxio for Nero.

I own the dv-p505 dvd player, and I have no problem playing VCD's. I am using TDK cd-r disks and Easy CD creator 5 Platinum. I also have had good experience with CDRWIN 5.0 but make sure to check if your burner is compatible with it. Try going to www.digital-digest.com they have great information on these subject.
