Indiana Desk Co desk

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Just picked up a 50 x 30 solid wood desk, used. Inside the top drawer, it says "Indiana Desk Company, Jasper, Ind" inside a little map of Indiana. I found a website for the company, but all it said is that the company made desks from 1927 on, and changed its name in 1986.. I'm trying to find out how old this desk is. Any ideas on how to proceed?

It seems to me that pulling a drawer out and looking at the construction is one way. Check the back of the desk too. Is the back made of a different material? Are the drawers dovetailed, nailed, fitted in some otherway? Look at the bottom of the drawer, check the amount of wear on the runners, feet, edges, corners. What sort of a desk is it? Library? Did the person you bought it from have any information?

Check the library or if you have any dealers in your area you could take the drawer into them to look at.

After you get the information that Susan suggests, then email the company web site and ask them to help you identify when it was made.
