I can't leave this country life behind

I remember when I was young when life was full of so much fun

But times have changed and so have I but I can't leave the country life behind

I'd wake up in the morning at the break of dawn tumble out of bed stretch and yawn.

I could smell eggs cooking and bacon too outside I'd her the rooster cock-a-doodle-doo.

I would stand on the front steps and watch the sun rise above the trees my nose would start to tingle and I would stop and sneeze.

Dad would be out looking across the field "Son" how much hay do you think that there field will yield?

I'd grab a bucket go and milk the cow feed the chickens and slop the sows.

Mum would open up the front door and yell don't be long everyone is up and breakfast won't last long.

I would say "hi" to my horse as I walked by what a beautiful day to go for a ride.

I would head for the house when my chores were through I can't eat now or I'll be late for school.

I would grab a piece of bacon and run out the door goodbye mum and dad I will see you at four.

At school I would stare out the window and watch the world go by I'd dream about giving up that country life.

Then the day finally came when I turned eighteen I moved to the city to chase my dreams.

After living in the city for twenty years or more I felt something was missing but what I wasn't sure.

I started wandering around aimlessly looking for what was missing in the heart of me.

At work I would stare out the window and watch the world go by and dream about giving up that city life.

Then one day I gave up the job the house and the finer things I threw out the suits and threw on my blue jeans.

I got in my car I drove and drove on all through the day and all night long.

Then after twenty years I saw a familiar sight as I pulled into the droveway on came a light.

I heard my Dad cry out my son has come home he wrapped his arms around me and said you've been gone to long.

Now I listen to the rain on the old tin roof and the clickety clack of horses hooves

I see bumble bees buzzing everywhere and I smell the fresh smell of springtime in the air.

And I remember when I was young I was living in a world full of so much fun

now times have changed and so have I but I still can't leave this country life behind.

George, I just love reading your posts. They always hit home. Please keep it up. I think they touch us all. And put me on the list of those who want a copy of that book of yours when you get it published.

Tracy, Fran and Roxanne.

It makes me proud to have you and others in my other post compliment me. However, there are so many of you that are doing such great things. I think sometimes we all tend to lose sight of the fact that each of us has something unique to offer to others.I read the threads and even though I may not post I do learn something from almost every post I read. I have come to realize that I really do not have much homesteading advise to offer but I do have stories that I can share with all of you and with each story I post I hope that it will touch at least one person in a special way. When I tell my stories here I feel like I am telling them to family members. And I owe it all to all of you that finally this weekend I sat down and completed my book and whatever happens with it from this point on is up in the air but at least I have it to share with my family here and at home. :-) George
