Christian Homeschoolers in Canada?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am interested in corressponding with homeschooling, christian families in more remote hilly or mountainous areas of Canada. We have been a back-to-the land family for 15 years but are interested in relocating to a colder and less humid climate. Our 4 year old has ds. and the snake population here is dangerous for her. Also we had to install a/c, which we did not want because of the expense, because she can not deal with the heat or humidity. We attend a Freewill Baptist church but are not into denomination only churches. We would like to find Christians that are not supporters of youth group stuff that encourages worldly behavior. We are very conservative and our children enjoy reading old classics and are involved in piano, fiddle and guitar music. We are building our own house in the Ozarks and have invested a lot of time establishing our orchard and garden etc. But a move looks like the way to go. Thanks for any response. Joan

Hi joan, I don't homeschool but a website in Canada you might try is www.life.ca (natural life magazine in Ontario) or the BC Home Learners' Association (British Columbia). The climate here in Ontario is much colder while some areas of BC are comparable to the Ozarks.

hi Joan. I live in Ontario and the climate here is just what you are looking for. I, myself, am just about to embark on the journey of homeschooling with my 6 year old. I send her off to school happy and she comes home cranky. The last 2 years she was in an A.C.E school and the education was better than she is getting now but a little hard on our budget. Homeshooling is the best choice now. I go to a non-denominational church that believes in dicipleship for the youth. My husband has just discovered his calling is to work with youth. I would be interested to hear about your homeshooling experience and any advice you may have about getting started. Thanks a bunch. Donna

Our son will have to go to school in about 2 years. I want to avoid sending him to a public school at all cost. My wife is Japanese, and I am considering sending him to school in Japan. Homeschooling is another option, of which I know very little. Anyway, if you want to move North, consider Saskatchewan, here is dry climate, yet fine for farming, and a full four-season climate.
