Dieting tips

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I have found that it is best to plan ahead how much I will eat. When it is time for dinner, I fix my plate with the amounts I had planned. Then I don't have any more than that. So far this is working very good for me. I always have trouble with reaching for seconds!

List any tips here and remember thursday is coming!

Bob, how is the coke dilemma going?

You might want to try adding a first course of a cup of low fat soup to fill you up. Ditto with lots of liquids. I try to load up on the nonfattening (cole slaw, jello, carrots, salad withlow fat/nonfat dressing) and go easy on the fattening stuff. In the end I feel satisfied.

Also, have you tried replacing the butter on your bread/rolls with jelly? I follow a low-fat plan-don't worry about sugar. But then, I worry about heart disease and plaque and high blood pressure (all of which, as far as I know, I have avoided).

If you have trouble with being very hungry when mealtime comes around, nibble on a few nuts while you cook. I like cashews. The fat in them helps make you feel full faster, and they are high in protein. The fat is of a type that is good for you, and necessary for your body. The bonus side of this is that your body will be less likely to feel deprived and knock on your appetite door with cravings for fatty foods (even if you don't like to munch on fatty foods, depriving yourself of them too much will make your body hold on to them and crave them more).

Sometimes When I'm working at home by myself I think "HeY, I'll get something to eat" I'm beginning to realize that I'm not allways hungry, or need to eat. its that I need to take a break! I will fix a cup of herb tea, and sit and sip it for a while until I feel rested and ready to go again. I like to eat (homemade) Soup for lunch-its healthy, less calories, you get that fluid we all need, plus it takes longer to eat soup, than to gobble down some thing else, so you fill full and you take that time to chill out for a little bit.

Heres a funny story thats been helping me latly think about what I'm eating. Some of you know that a few days ago, I fell down the stairs and hurt my back (and my back-end.) About three days later my young daughter tripped going up the steps, she caught herself with her hand and was perfectly fine. She said "Mom, how come when you fell down the stairs it hurt you a lot but when I fall on them it didn't hurt" and my ten year old son,not even looking up from his comic book, said"well, you know Rachel, the bigger you are the harder you fall!"

Thats made me think a little before chowing down on goodies!
