EOS 1 viewfinder characters

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi all, Have recently purchased an EOS1 with PBE2 and taking great shots so far. Found that some of the Aperture numbers displayed through the viewfinder to be distorted, eg F4 shows the 4 as a "9". F16 shows up as "76", F10 as "70" etc. Is this a function of age, or is there something I can do to correct this problem (apart from getting Canon to charge a fortune). Appreciate some advice. Thanks. John Michael

It sounds as if the top horizontal segment of the 7-segment number display has got stuck on. This is quite possibly a function of age, and other than getting canon to replace the part, I don't think there is much you could do. Given that you already have the PB-E2 (you are sure it isn't PB-E1?), then an EOS 3 would seem a good route to take. But, of course, since you've just recently purchased the EOS 1, you probably want to get a little more use out of it.

I'd just ignore the problem, and use common sense to work out what the aperture value is (or set it in Av, checking it on the top display) when necessary. It probably is not worth spending money on an EOS 1 right now, so get as much use as you can out of it, and then replace with an EOS 3 or EOS 1V (to match your PB-E2) when you can or have the inclination to do so.
