Inside my wood stove there is a plate that is on the top side of the stove. The one end has a 90 degree radius on it and is facing the door. Now I don't know if this is the right position for this plate for draft purposes or not? Should it be at the back of the stove? Please help!

The plate might be there to keep smoke from comming out the door when you reload the fire. What shape is the stove, round; squarish? How much distance from the top of the door opening to the roof of the chamber?

Does it move? Is it to prevent sparks from going straight up the chimmney, a type of deflector?

Perhaps you should ask on the wood heat list at yahoo groups you can get there by going to the site at www.woodheat.org and on the opening page about half way down click the forum link, wood heating professionals monitor the group. It's a great site to read too.

You didn't mention the brand of the woodstove Doug. I have seen some where pieces of angle are supports for firebrick that go across the top of the firebox. Others hava a plate that is a support for a high temp ceramic blanket. Both of these provide a way to increase the temp at the top of the firebos which kind of gives an afterburner effect. Be sure to not position the angle so it restricts the exit of burned gases. good luck jz
