Rita,

I am not in ND, but I home school in Ohio. Here is the site for ND laws from Home School Legal Defense:

http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?State=ND

Might want to check out the whole site if you happen to be new to home schooling. Their home page is at:

the best way to find out about laws on homeschooling in any state is to go to a search engine...( yahoo, google, ect..)...and type in homeschool groups north dakota....this will give you a web site for a homeschool group who will be versed on the laws of that state...email them ( they usually have a link ) and ask....Most are very helpful and full of info that they are happy to share...happy hunting ... what do you want to know , can you homeschool here , yes , are there a few cavealts ? , yes as well :) nothign good comes easy

if you have a college degree , from an accredited 4 year college , you can homeschool as soon as you bsubmit copies to the local school, and they on to the state , (doesnt matter if the 4 year degree is in waste management , just any 4 year degree :) )

if you pass the teaching test , and have high school diploma, you can home school, no problem , the test has to be passed with at least minimum marks , that means , isf a teacehr taking the test here , gets , say 78% and 22 states require a 79%, but , then say one other state requires you pass with 76%, you pass, and can teach , the state of ND has no minimum reg on this , as of yet.....

or , you can homeschool with a teacher supervisor , coming for visits , for 2 years , this means, if you have 4 kids age 1 year to 12, the teacher can supervise you for two years , on any child, then after that youre done ,and never need it again ,

thats the route i went , and it has been a wise decision , all in all, having the local teacher come in has helped a lot with getting connected into a rather insular community, she is also his 4 h leader :),and , to cove my bum, at the beginning of the school year , i went in to talk to the superintendant , and asked him right out , if for some reason this teacher and i dont get along, or i think she isnt doing things correctly , can i get a diffrent one , and he said , sure , just call me ,

but i think we have been really lucky , she is very nice lady , and a wonderful person , someone who i am glad to have met , and am pretty sure would not have met otherwise :)

those are the regs for ND , a little more restrictive than they were back in wis , but , not too bad all in all

Wow, sounds like they are a little more restrictive than are in most states.

Oh no. We checked Minnesota You have testing every year, could be required to have a visit from your local superintendant, and must kepp a time log and lesson planner, as well as a folder of the kids work.

Here isn't so bad, where are you in ND? Here in Nelson County the suporvisor teacher is very relaxed and excepting and she homeschools too!
