LIVING SITUATION AVAILABLE on an organic farm- homestead in scenic northwestern Connnecticut. We have a modern one bedroom upstairs apartment for rent, with rent reduction possible in exchange for chore and farm help. Some hourly paid farm work is also available, but off farm income would be needed. We raise rare livestock breeds and sell beef, veal, and pork directly to the consumer through our newsletter and local farmers' market. As a largely self- sufficient homestead, we milk cows by hand for ourselves and to feed pigs and chickens, have lots of gardens and some fruit. Markets for organic farm products are strong, and there are many opportunities to diversify the farm operation, (pastured poultry, market garden, roadside stand, etc...). We encourage independent projects which complement ours. We are looking for a mature, competent couple with a strong commitment to organic food production and the Countryside philosophy. Please no smoking, drugs, or dogs. This can be a long term arrangment for the right people. The amount of farm participation is negotiable, but we do need help so we can have a day off now an then. Tenants can have there own garden, possibly there own animal enterprises, and access to our organic meats, milk, and eggs. This is an opportunity to join an established homestead and pursue a homstead/ small farm lifestyle in a supportive environment. If intrested, please write to us and tell us about yourselves- any talents or skills you may have. We prefer initial contact by mail please. Philip and Dianne Lang, Howland Homestead Farm, 175A Geer Mountain Road, South Kent, CT 06785.

Gee, Phil and Dianne... wish I was on the East coast! Sounds like a perfect situation for someone. I hope you find the perfect fit.

No smoking, no dogs? How many times a day can I flush the toilet? Homesteading is about no body elses rules, I hope no one else is dumb enough to apply. Controling somebody elses life is distastefull to us.
