Need insight into Annabel Lee

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

I am hoping to do a paper on Annabel Lee. I understand the poem but would like to get some critiques on it. I am not sure what I am going to write about yet and would like some suggestions and an analysis on the poem to get started. This is not due for about a month, but as I said, I am not sure what I am going to write yet and need time to think about it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Annabel Lee is not just another love story. It is a true heartbreak. Edgar Allan Poe is writing about his wife Virginia. She died at a very young age from a disease. Poe is blaming her death on the angels of heaven. In a form of writing he says that the angels became jealous of he and his wife’s happiness and love. Their love was so passionate that the angels tried to end the relationship by making Virginia sick. Alas! Even through sickness the couples’ hearts raced with love. After Poe’s beloved wife’s death, love kept them together in soul.

I think this is a very romantic poem. It expresses never-ending love with a taste of anguish and pain that brings tears to your eyes. I think it was beautifully written and anyone can be pulled into the story. Poe has a very sensitive side and it really comes out in this poem. In a way he brings you out of reality and into his world, your heart wrenches and cries with his and when he is expressing his devotion to Virginia you feel the love.
