tractor needed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I need a tractor and am willing to trade an ugly boat for it. I also wonder of anyone knows anyone willing to take payments in the central va area. My credit is "blemished" from hard times when we first moved here. Any sugestions?

Did you mean your looking for an owner financed place?

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you there. What you need is something like a 'buy-here, pay-here' deal. I'd think that'd be a tough bill to fill. You might want to consider talking to your local bank about some type of loan with a co-signer if that's an option. I hope this helps.

Don't know how owner financed land got into this equasion. You would likely be better off in selling the boat and then looking for a tractor. Doubt many would be willing to swap, even with the difference in payments. You're looking at $2,500+ for even a Ford 8N in working condition. Tractors aren't cheap to purchase or maintain. Old saying is the two best days are the day you buy a boat and the day you sell it. Same probably applies to a used tractor.

Tractors are usually a cash & carry deal on private sales, so you will have a hard time finding something on credit - from a private sale. Do you have extra time, might be able to work for a farmer over the summer, and be paid with an old tractor at the end of the year? I've seen that done before.

Where in central VA do you live,I'm near Charlottesville and I farm and collect tractors so I have a bunch.I don't really have one for sale right now but could probably help you find one or I would be willing to work a trade for the work you need done. You should be able to find a running useable tractor for $1000 to $1500 range if interested give me an email.

OK great advise. First of all, I had a tractor before I moved here ( 5 years ago ) and it was a Farmal, cost me $1,000. I had to sell it. :( It was way too far to move it here affordably. I have a boat that needs a motor, it is a 19' starcraft. The trailer is excellent, even the rubber is good. I'm in need of something around that price range that some one is willing to trade or work out a deal, because sadly enough, although I teach children in the public school system, and love my move to the country, a lump sum of money is not in the ballpark, or should I say on the farm these days. I was just throwing an idea out there to see what may come up. I found that is the best way to get what you need in the country. I also raise pork and could deal that way too. Contact me if interested.
