Who is an old fogie, too?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

When I was a younger man, our youth minister accused me of being born old. I don't know about all of you, but I enjoy being careful and conservative im my approach to life. {Even if my kids call me an old fogie. ;o) }

Depends upon the definitions, Jim. I'm not old by my definition, but my kids who are approaching 40 for the oldest, think my definition is a tad skewed! Be young in mind, and don't look back. Being conservative only means that your brain functions better than the majority of the populace, whatever their ages. GL!

I'm still a "student of life", 41 years old and still not sure what I want to be when I grow up. :>)

My mother used to say that I was born in the wrong century, I tend to think she is right....

my mother says i was born in the wrong century too. i am 33 and the only woman in my area who knows that food didnt always come from a box. Everything i cook is from scratch, i sew for my kids, i quilt and make homeade cheese and butter and soap. Heck in a scrape i could make my own toothpaste. But this is why i have few friends i quess. oh well... is my theory... more time to finish knitting those socks for the hubby...LOL

My wife always says she married Daniel Boone. I'm just 41 myself.

I would love to find a Daniel Boone. The trouble is finding them. I am 42 and love it. Youth is in the mind and heart. Who cares what others think. I am a wilderness family wannabe and my family said that I was born at the wrong time. I think their right!!

For some reason since I can remember I have said I should have been born in 1874. I have no idea why that year. George

What is the origen of the word 'fogie'?

-- paul (primrose@centex.net), January 16, 2002.

Etymology of the word is Scots "fogey". Definition is "stodgy of nature, old fashon in views and values. Guess maybe i am an old fogy also, since my favorite coffee cup is milkglass with my name screened on it, that I got when my parents bought a set for our family when I was six and now its a 35 year old antique. :>)

Forgot to add to the above the other qualification I have as a "fogy". I slightly freak if I can't find my flat nib fountain pens that I have used for the majority of my hand writing for the last 27 years.

Pah, old is a relative term...I will hit my fourth decade very soon, but I might get older but I refuse to grow up! Yesterday, we went to Sam's Club with DH to pick up groceries, there is a perfect slight decline in the parking lot, so I "ride" the cart down it--goes pretty good too. DH said everyone was smiling at me but I've never seen anyone else do it (DH said he's going to when he gets his back fixed)

Life is short and I find fun things to do everyday. I'm just grown up enough to keep my bills caught up, clean my house, cook from scratch and all the homesteady things, but I try everyday to do something to make me smile for just doing it. Throwing snowballs at DH and then running is always fun, the dogs tripped me yesterday and I ended up with a mouthful of snow.

Sure am glad to know I am not alone in feeling I didn't fit in with society's expectations. And certainly don't fit in with this century. My grown kids think I am an alien, nor of much intelligence, something definitly wrong with mom. I raised them country style,,but none of it "took",,all prefer city life. hmmm,,wonder if working so hard at "canning' time did it? Couldn' have been when I took them on trail rides,each having their own horse to ride, or made them all come to pick berries for pies and jam.?? 'smile', I just live the way I love and wouldn't change it for anything this world has to offer. ,,When I get upset,,I draw closer to nature,,the gift of God. Listen to the natural music around us,,birds, the whispering winds, the tranquil feelings of a new snow...the soothing sounds of rain on the roof. And it so wonderful to know that we have this forum,,just a few clicks away to listen and chat with folks of like mind. I appreciate all of you very much. Take care,,
