puchasing seeds wholesale

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anybody know where to buy seeds wholesale? I've thought about growing large amounts of veggies to sell at farmers markets or roadside. I would like to buy 100 lb. sack of onion sets and various other seeds.

Check with the catalog seed companies (Burpee, etc). A lot of them also sell to farmers and commercial growers in bulk at discounted prices, but they don't advertise this fact in the catalogs. Also, check with your local extension agent or farmer's co-op.

Might look at R.H.Shumway and Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, Baker Creek does not have a big variety of bulk seeds, but does offer some.

We use Rupp seeds,Holmes seeds & sometimes Chesmore seed co.The Rupp seeds are a little more expensive but in our case the end results have been well worth it........

Stokes seeds sells bulk quantities of all their seeds, the prices are pretty cheap also, but they do not sell onion sets. They do have almost everything else you might want. They are at stokesseeds.com.

Jordan Seeds, 6400 Upper Afton Rd., Woodbury, MN 55125...Phone 651/738-3422 or 651/739-9578...www.jordanseeds.com. I have ordered from them and been very satisfied. For instance, they carry 21 varieties of bush green beans: price ranges from 1.65 to 5.85 per POUND of seed. The expensive ones are for the fancy french filet beans seeds. The price drops as you buy more seed. They cater mostly to famers but sell to anyone. Great company.

Thank you everyone for your response. I'll have to give some of these a try. I'm hoping to grow for the farmers market. Thank you
