this week i wanted to buy a new filmscanner, namely the nikon IV. today i found an add for a new microtek filmscan 3600. it offers 3600 dpi resolution and a firewire connection for about the same price as the nikon. any opinions? or any problems with older microtek products?

I have an old Microtek Scanmaker 4 (600 dpi) flatbed scanner that has served me very well. It has a means of scanning negatives, and I have purchased accessory glassless holders for 35mm and 120 (I modified the 120 to handle strips). It works fine for web publication. I'd be willing to bet that a dedicated film scanner from Microtek would be an excellent product. How much does it cost?

the filmscanner is announced for a bit less than GBP 500.
