Does Fox Urine Work for Skunks??? Followup to Skunks Under My House-Help!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Thank you everyone for sending me your suggestions for getting rid of skunks under my house. I can not find where they are getting in from, but I know that they are under the house.

Does anyone know if Fox or Coyote Urine works as a repellant? It is pretty expensive. If it does work, does anyone know where I can get the real stuff. I would hate to buy a bottle of the owner's private stock.

Thank You

it wil work,,,,to bring them in,,, skunks are scavangers,, so they will come in,,just to see what the fox was getting into. Bait, and trap/shoot. Or,, you CAN train them into pets,, and once tame,, take them to a vet to get the glands removed. Would be easier to trap though

EB, if you research the archives you will find discussions on this topic. Most of them consist of over reaction, lots of testosterone and very little thought. I can tell you that it is easy to remove skunks from under your house without endangering you or the skunk. They are helpful creatures which keep down the mice, rats, snail, slug etc. populations and it is no big deal to relocate one or more. Set out a hav-a- heart trap and this is the secret...cover it lightly with an old sheet, small piece of blanket etc.,leaving the front open, and place a bit of cat food, whatever in there and a tuna can of water. Place the trap where the entrance/exit is and make sure your dogs/cats are put away. Wait till dark and soon after you will probably have a skunk in there, they are curious and bold so it shouldn't take long. I talk softly when approaching the trap, pick it up gently and place it in a safe, protected spot where no other animal can threaten the skunk into spraying for overnight. Early the next morning I gently pick up the trap, put it in my car and drive the little guy up into the forest, somewhere near water and let it go. No big thing, no guns or dynamite needed! You don't have to kill everything that wanders onto your property! You might catch a 'possum or 'coon too. That's OK. I encourage them to stay around and help with rodent control. If you don't want them, take them out and let them go somewhere also. Let them help kill mice, moles, rats, grasshoppers and the like for someone else. Hope this helps, LQ

Fox urine stinks almost as bad as the skunks themselves. Get a trapper and have them remove the skunks, then seal up the holes they dug getting under your house.

The obvious answer is no as the skunks have to do their own peeing.
