Heico NH-5 Fixer - undiluted shelf life and film/paper developers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I've just gotten back from being in the Peace Corps for 3 years, and have an unopened bottle of Heico NH-5 Fixer in my darkroom. Does anyone know if is still good or have any advice for how to find out?

Also, I'm looking for advice on good film and paper developers - I have 4x5 Tri-x film, and will be using Oriental VC Fiber paper. Thanks!

If you see some solid sulfur precipitation in the unused fixer, that's no good. If you see other white cristalline stuff, try to warm up to a room temperature and agitate for a while. If they cleanly dissolve, it's fine. If the unused fixer is clear solution, it's probably fine.
