Anyone Driving Kansas City to KY or TN or vice versa?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We have 2 Border Collie pups that need to get close to Kansas City from Louisville or Nashville. And we have one puppy that needs to come back here from Kansas City. We had something set up for this weekend, meeting them half way, but they are unable to do it now. Just wondering if any of you will be traveling, we'll help with gas money of course. I figure it dosen't hurt to ask.

OK, I know this is an 'out of the box' idea, but here goes. Find a trucking company that makes those runs regularly. Then physically go to the terminal and talk with the terminal manager and see if you can contact the driver and ask him if he'll help you out. This'll all have to be 'unofficial,' of course. It's certainly not 'freight' in the typical sense as they'd ride in the cab, but you just want the ride, right? If the terminal manager isn't a stickler for rules and the driver is a dog lover they'll probably be happy to help you out. The driver will probably be happy for the company. If he's not, you don't want to send the pups with him anyhow. Offer the guys a few bucks for their trouble, of course. If the first carrier you contact won't help, ask them who else makes that run. I hope this helps.

Look up Canine Underground Railroad, CUR on any of the search engines and you will find several different groups. You might be able to arrange something through these, although I believe their primary purpose is to transport rescue dogs to a new home. Kate

Yeah, I've been searching for hours on the web. I think I've found a need here. All of the transport groups are only for rescue. And the horse hauler sites with routes posted require a fee to read. One place takes dogs across country, at 175.00 each, up to 10 pounds. Thats a bit much. I have my own domain, and found some free message boards, I might just start one for folks like us who could help each other moving animals.
