The World's Tallest Elevator

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Elevator Problem Discussion : One Thread

Hi there; I'm currently working on a television program in Copenhagen, Denmark. The program contains a competition, where the prize for the lucky winner is a free trip to the country where he/she will get to ride in the world's tallest elevator (height, not speed). The problem is - I don't know where it is? Is it in Singapore or Hong Kong? Please help. Kind regards, Eva

tallest elevator

The Petronas Towers in Kuala Lampur,Malaysia are the worlds tallest buildings. The CN Tower in Canada is the worlds tallest free standing structure and has 6 elevators. However I don't know if ay of them make a full run from bottom to top. I suggest you check out the web sites for these structures. Some high rise buildings have banks that only serve limited sections of the building. Such as 1-21,21-40,etc. So it is possible that an 80 story building may have it's longest elevator run at only 30 stories or so. But most buildings will have service cars that make a full run. Good luck.

Hi. I am a brazilian journalist. I was working in a text about "Elevador Lacerda" (Bahia - Brazil) and find this at www.otis.com: Otis operates the world’s tallest elevator test tower in Shibayama, Japan. This test tower stands 154 meters (505 ft) above ground and 27 meters (89 ft) below ground.

They claim this is the tallest but I d'ont Know for sure. Hope You choose Rio de Janeiro.

you will probably find it is underground in some mine somewhere Try THE GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS not sure if this available online

There is a potash mine near Saskatoon, Saskatchawan, Canada with a 3,800+ ft manlift. It may not qualify as a real elevator since it is a drumb winch type lift without counterweight. A continuous 3-4 minute ride at 1,000 + fpm seems like forever in this partially open car.

KONE has a tall (300+ meter?) inverted test tower in a mine in Finland.

Longest single lift ride will be at the Kidd Creek Mine near to Timmins, Ontario, Canada.

This will have the longest lift ride at over 3000 metres when complete.
