RC-1 or RC-5. Which one is better?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi, I looking for information about differences of these two remote controller. Which one is better and why? What differences are betwen these remote controllers and remote switch RS-60E3 (in work and possibilities).

The other question, I heard that these remote contrallers don't work with EOS 300 and Rebel 2000 bodies. It is true? In manual I wrote that is compatible. Where is true?

Thank you.

The Rebel 2000 is compatable with the RS-60E3, not the RC-1 or 5. The wired remote is small, light and fairly convenient for bulb exposures, just be careful with the plug that covers the camera remote socket. The RS-60E3 can either be pressed to operate the shutter or can be locked for extended exposures. I put a piece of velcro on it so I could attach it to the tripod during long exposures. Otherwise you have to hold it or let it hang wher it can sway and possibly cause a little camera shake. The manual mentions wireless remote compatibility with the R2K but it is wrong. The original Popular Photography review of the R2K inaccurately said it was compatible with the RC-1 (plus it was supposed to have a panoramic switch -- available in the Japanese version though, I'm told).

I found some information and I want to divide: "The EOS 300 is the overseas version of the Rebel 2000 camera that is marketed here in the United States. The wireless remote controller RC- 1 is designed for specific EOS SLR cameras while the RC-5 is designed for compact APS cameras. The RC-1 is compatible with the Elan 7/7E, Elan II/IIE, Elan, 10s, and IX. There are no wireless controller available for the EOS 300/Rebel 2000." Thank you for help me.

Rebel 2000/EOS 300 remote:

It's true that the Rebel 2000/EOS 300 does not support an infrared remote control - just the wired remote. However, the Japanese version of the camera, the Kiss III, supports both wired and wireless remotes. At least according to Canon's Camera Museum site. (it's mentioned in the text plus you can see the red IR receiver built into the handgrip in the photo) Perhaps the magazine got a Japanese prototype for review.

Wired or wireless:

The benefits of wired versus wireless controllers has already been discussed here recently. Do a search of the forum and you'll find the info.

Both the RC-1 and RC-5 work with EOS SLRs that accept IR remotes (EOS 10S, Elan, Elan IIE, Elan 7E, IX). However, the RC-1 is better as it has a choice between lock, 2 sec delay and release. Plus, it is small enough it may be attached to the camera strap.

The RC-5 is big and dorky with a single big button in the middle. The gold plated one for the limited edition gold Elf is kinda cute.
