I'm trying to convert an avi file to a vcd with TMPGEnc and it says it will take over 15 hours. Is this normal.... how long does it usually take to convert this type of file??

Depending on the filters you activate with TMPGenc a minute of AVI will take anywhere from 6 to 10 mins to encode, or even more. If you have an hour or so of AVI then 10hrs encoding time or so is expected with, say, a P3 1GHz. Encoding times is the main bone with TMPGenc, but I'd take this route anyday for superb MPEG quality for one-off projects instead of so-so direct-to-MPEG capture quality.

1 hour of avi not divx avi will take you around 1hr 30mins max on an 850mhz with normal encoding.. if its a divx Avi its far more complex if you wish to learn how to do it if its a divx please email me

All the best Pete, BTW my 400 Celeron will do 1 hour in 2-3 hours.. Hp workstation Vizulalize twin 550mhz will do it in same time as it plays.. 1 hour
