advice on what lens to buy

Hi, I've recently aquired a 2nd hand cannon eos50 body and was wondering what lenses to buy. I used to do quite alot of photography at college a few years back but am very out of practise now. The camera will be used whilst travelling taking a variety of people and landscape shots, i'd like to also try and be creative. any advice would be really appreciated. thanks speni :)

Since you are looking for suggestions, I would recommend the Canon 28- 105mm f/3.5-4.5 or, as a more expensive alternative, the Canon 28- 135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. These lenses cover the "middle" range very well and are pretty sharp. Add a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II for low light level photography and you will be well on your way.

I'm with that guy. The Canon 28-105 is a great main lens (It's what I use). If you've more cash go for the 28-135IS. The 50mm is also good to have for low light and a little extra sharpness. For a telephoto I'd suggest the 75-300 for a good start. If you've got money to buy to big lenses then either the 75-300IS or the 70-200 f4 L.

Oh, and the absolute cheapest lens (and a damn good one) is the 50mm.
