greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Can someone help me please. im trying to convert a Divx avi file to a vcd file then burn it to a cd-r using Adaptec easy cd creater version 3.5 I've heard some people say that version 3.5 can burn vcd's to cdr's and then some people said that it cant be done with this version. what gives? Also do i really need to download that Nero program? Is that just for burning or what? I've tried to get into vcdhelp for days with no luck. Server must be bogged down. Can someone please help here. Hi, I have just started to do all this my self so go easy with me. Since VCDHelp is down :-( go 2

http://www.matthawkins.co.uk/html/video_cd_faq.htm

Look in the How can I make my own VCDs? Section and click on the link to download AVI2VCD with the DivX movies you will need to use the decompress tool which is in this download before you can convert it to MPEG1!!! Once you have got your MPEG1 file you can use Nero, Easy CD or i have heard that VCDHelp has a VCD burning app you can download.

Regards, hope it helps

There's another post here that says that VCDhelp has had too much traffic for its server to handle and that's why it's down. You can use TMPGenc fairly easily to do the conversion and there was a real good guide on VCDhelp on doing just that. I'm a bit bothered by the suggestion to uncompress the video first before encoding. You shouldn't need to do that. TMPGenc does not require this prior to encoding and uncompressing AVI video could take up a LOT of disk space. In my opinion, all versions of Easy CD Creator suck and 3.5 sucks a lot. Nero can be used for burning VCDs and it's a lot better than (not so) EZ CD Creator. You can try Nero for 30 days before buying. It's functionality is not restricted. You can get a demo copy at www.ahead.de. Nero is real nice and it also supports overburning. This is the ablity to burn slighty more to a CD-R than it will officially hold by burning to the lead out area of the disc. You can get an extra 1.5 minutes or more by doing this. No version of EZ CD Creator supports this. For example, I used this feature in Nero to burn 81 minutes of CD audio to an 80 minute CD-R. You can't do this in EZ CD Creator. It's your decision, but I don't think you would regret abandoning EZ CD Creator for something else and Nero is a better program in my opinion.

Easy Cd Creator 3.5 only does audio and data...it does not do VCD. If you could get into VCDHELP.COM ,there is some excellent freebie downloads including VCDEASY which will do VCD as well as SVCD. Sometimes you will come across a DIVX AVI that has compressed audio and (as per VCDHELP FAQ's) you can extract tha audio as a WAV then MULTIPLEX it.I should also say that an average length movie WAV audio track is huge (about 1 gig) so you'll need lots of HD space.

Hi, Im the guy who used avi2vcd to encode an hour an half movie, it took 2 whole days on an Athlon XP 1800 with half a gig of ram!! No kidding... http://www.flexion.org/ has an MPEG1 encoder comparison page and states avi2vcd takes the longest out of all the puka encoders (i won't be using that again) i did also have to decompress my avi audio at first remember to & i have just split the MPEG into 2 parts with TMPGEnc & both files look and sound pritty good. Im going to attempt to burn with EZ CD 5 and see how i get on people are telling me to burn at low speeds??? Iv pushed up to 10x on a CD- RW and had no problems yet but i think it all depends on what kinda player you have...

Cheers

Not an answer but another question. If I convert several AVI's to an MPEG1 stream with TMPGEnc can I put them all on one disk and be able to watch them all or no matter how small the video is I can only put one per disk?

Thanks Wes

The adaptec ez cd creator 4 pro is a good program, I've tried all the others and can't get on with them, I have used adaptecs version 4 pro to create a dvd style menu system (even with bonus material like cartoons with my films and a front cover picture downloaded from the net to FRONT the first page on my VCD with MUSIC from the film! (using Tempg (very complicated process)) it is also reliable - I have have little wastage with knakered half burnt cd's that 'ran of of buffer' etc.. all the other versions of adaptecs cd creator's are pants!

No contest. For converting avi into mpeg1 or mpeg2 TMPGEnc is the best program. I however use VCD Easy for the actual vcd production step. It's fairl simple tool to use as long as you can figure out the whole ASPI issue. Here is a great link to a guid for you guys who want to learn more. http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/divx2vcd.html

Hey, I've been messing around with vcds myself for a few months and here is the best solution there is. Mainconcept mpeg encoder is the fastest vcd encoder there is I can do an hour and a half movie on my 566/ celeron w/ 64megs of ram in 3 hours w/ perfect video. Its easy to use open it load the video it'll tell you how its encoded move the pull down menu to vcd and hit encode. It also supports batch encoding. Once you have your video encoded use nero burning rom it's great it loads up with a wizard simply chose from the left menu what kind of cd your burning; iso, audio, vcd, svcd, and many others and drag and drop from a file browser on the right hand side. Then hit burn I can turn out around .... 4 to 5 movies a day and thats squeezing in sleep and converting while I'm not using the computer also if you want to convert a couple of movies and have the space just do a batch convert with mainconcept and let it a lone for a day I don't have the space but I imagine it could do 8 1.5 hour movies in a day.

P.S. Neither nero nor main concepts are free but try doing a google search on nero burning rom v x.xx crack and the same with main concepts, or send me an email (beezlebub@mail2hell.com) and I'll hook you
