What to buy Rebel g qd or Rebel 2000 qd?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am wanting to buy a canon rebel with a 28-105 lens but I can't decide which body to buy. The camera will basically be used for family shots nothing to fancy. Can you help. I am also wondering how much bigger the 28-105 lens is compared to 28-80? Also do you need warrenty on lenses or mostly for the body? Thanks for your help.

rebel 2000. the 28-105 is not that much bigger at all. you also get much better quality.

Unless you have a real need for the quartz date feature, save some money on this. The only purpose I ever found for a date stamp on a photographic image is to ruin a perfectly good photo. Definitely go for the Rebel 2000. The 28-105 is a very good lens, superior to the 28-80 lenses and more useful to boot. It's a little larger but not too much so. Be sure to buy a protective UV filter and the Canon lens hood.

I agree 100% with the answers given above. I would only add that if $$ is tight, a Rebel G with the 28-105USM is a much better choise than a Rebel 2000 with a 28-80.

I have bought gray market lenses and flash(from B&H), but would only buy bodies with a full US warrenty. If this is your first real camera, you may sleep better at night if you buy both body and lens with a US warrenty from someone reputable like B&H or Adorama.
