Where to locate out of print books

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

This is not a question, but I am posting this url as a reference for locating the used books that are often mentioned on this website. It doesn't do much good to know about a book if you can't find a copy. The website searches the listings of many dealers in new & used books, so you can shop for the best prices. I am not affiliated with Abe Books, but turn to them often when I need something, or want to appraise a book that I have. I'm sure others will be able to add more good websites.

The Barnes and Noble site has a similar out-of-print search service linked to a network of dealers. The site is: http://www.bn.com/.

I've used www.addall.com to find reasonably priced copies of several out-of-print books.

One good thing about Amazon.com is that they allow regular ol' people, like you and me, to sell used books, in or out of print, through the site. Since we're building a little resource here, I just thought I'd add my two cents.

www.bookfinder.com is - I think - the best, since it searches many sites, including PhotoEye and www.abebooks.com. I'd avoid buying anything through alibris.com. all they do is buy from other dealers and mark the price up anywhere from 25% to 50%, "or more!"

People attending the Maine Photographic Workshops these days have been delighted by Timothy Whelan, Fine Photographic Books and Prints, located in the middle of Rockport village. Tim is a fine photographer, and his handsome shop is stocked with great photographic books, new and used, including scarce books. The last time I was in Rockport, Tim was working on a website, which he may not yet have up and running. His phone number is (207) 236-4795. I should add that I am just a satisfied customer and have no other connection with the shop. Anyway, it is where I would look.
