Lonely old day

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

We have had house guests (mostly family members) since the saterday before Christmas, they came in shifts, staying two or three days at a time. Yesterday, the last of them, my sister, left. Today, everyones at work or school. My house seems HUGE and QUIET. It's sunny out but very cold.

I guess I'll clean today. Except for a quick swipe, the bathroom hasn't been cleaned since before Christmas and I'm afraid of the dust Rhinos hiding out under the couch. I also need to take the tree down. We had such a great Christmas, I hate to take it down-I waited til the kids went back to school because I knew they would be sad. I will leave out a few decorations-our Creche and the candles until Epiphany, but the tree is starting to get dry so it needs to go out. I think I'll put on some very loud music......

I now the feeling! With DH home so much lately, the house seems very quiet today. I have dinner in the crockpot and I'm resting from the physical therapy session. Next, I think I'll go to the sewing room.I want to make another nice billowy flannel nightgown for myself.

It's quiet around here today too. DH has gone back to work and it's a quiet old house. Getting caught up on laundry, taking Christmas things down and just generally trying to get caught up......might even slip in a nap :)

The only sound right now around here is the tap of keys on the board and the occasional snap from the fire. The husband went back to work today and the kids are in bed (sick, AGAIN). All this silence kind of makes me wish the cat was a talker, like our other one was.

I'm thinking now would be a good time to watch the birds at the feeder with a cup of coffee. I suppose a person ought to enjoy the silence when it comes, so as not to go nuts when it's chaotic.

Kelly, the subject of your post reminded me of something sung by a guy I met while in college in southern Indiana years ago... except he sang "It's a lonely old night..." ;o)

Hi Kelly, sometimes the silence can be louder than the noise!

My kids are still home, so we went to the library and worked today. took down Christmas decorations there, decorated a bulletin board for January, and sorted out some old books and outdated magazines. I just got home and am cooking a pot of soup and making sandwiches for supper.

Silence?, I just got back from pickin; up two of Melinda's kids in Indy. Ages 6 and 3 :-]

Since we moved hear I have such a great love for the silence, it's a whole other world, and the birds breaking the silence, I've never lived around so many birds before, quite a blessing.
