How to build an outdoor sauna with recycled materials

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'm interested in building a small outdoor sauna with old lumber and an old wood stove. Is this possible?

What we used to do was fill a metal milk crate will large stones. Place the crate in the campfire and let it "cook" all day. Then at the end of the day, place the hot rock-filled crate in an old tent. Splash water on the rocks and had a instant sauna. --Happy trails, CF

Rob Roy has a book about building a sauna using cordwood masonry construction. It might give you some ideas.

I"d watch which rocks I would put in a fire and 'cook all day' and then splash water on, as they could actually explode and serious injury. emory
