Wanting electric grain mill

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Several members of our family have celiac and can not have gluten grains like wheat. We want to grind rice to make flour since it is so expensive at the natural food stores. Has anyone done this and does anyone have an electric mill that they would like to see since we can not afford a new one? Thanks, I have appreciated reading oodles of the postings and they are so helpful. Pilgrim South

Well, so sorry, that was supposed to say "Does anyone have an electric grain mill they want to sell!" P. South

You can purchase a small electric coffee grinder at Walmart for 15.00. It grinds rice fine. It grinds about a half cup in about a minute.

That sounds great but I do quite a bit at a time, several pounds for the 12 of us. I think I probably still need an electric grain mill. Is there anyone out there with one for sale? Pilgrim South

check ebay. I know someone that bought an electric mill recently from there for $35. Be careful of shipping costs. A mill could weight quite a bit.

you might consider a used restaurant sized coffee bean grinder. These are very rugged, can handle high volume, and are usually fairly cheap compared to new electric grain mills capable of simular volume. Ebay usually has several listed. Usually sell for between $50 and $150.
