Great Southern Beans Harvested

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Well, anyone remember my earlier post about planting dried beans from the grocery store? The beans in question were Great Northern Beans, and today Dh & I harvested enough to make a dinner for 2, boiled w/ a potato & ham bits and a side of blackeyes & cornbread. Dh has decided to call these Great Southern Beans. We did have to string the pods, but oh! they smell so good! Collards should be ready in about a week, and the jaboticabas are blooming-time to make jam from last summer's harvest!

I remember my mom giving us a bag of those beans to plant in our "garden" when we were little. I don't know if any of them came up. My dad gave my daughter a bag of 15 Bean Soup beans and she planted them in our garden. I had several types of beans come up and I saved them and ate them. I don't think I got 15 varieties but it was fun to see the different types.

Learned something new about planting beans here. Did not know that the store bought bag of 15 bean soup mix, if planted would grow from them beans, anyone else tryed planting them and what success did you have?
