Error message when playing VCD on PC

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi there,

I have encountered the following error while using Windows Media Player 7.0 when playing VCD : A device attached to the system is not functioning. (Error=8007001F)

Could anyone recommend any solution. How about using any available shareware ?

Thank you and appreciate your response

On the lighter side : This is MS way of telling you that it doesn't like your CD or the contents in it :)

On the serious side : This is MS way of letting you know that it doesn't know what to do with your VCD disk. You will have to teach it how to open the disk everytime you use it. Use WMP's Open file option and browse to the CD's mpegAV directory and open the *.dat file. See if that will work for you. There are so many free software players out on the net, all you have to do is type mpeg player in a search engine and choose the one you like :)

Windows Media Player cannot play certain VCD format. As recommended by www.CoolVCD.com, Xing Mpeg Player is the VCD player which enable us to play all VCD movie in the market. Download the trial from http://www.xingtech.com

Since you're not using NetShow Theater, you probably just have something messed up in Windows. Media Player more or less sucks when it comes to playing anything other than nothing.

This is Micro$oft's explanation of the error:

CAUSE This error may be caused by an attempt to render a NetShow Theater Server stream using a Windows Media Player that is installed on one of the same NetShow Theater Server systems providing the MPEG stream to the rendering client.

You cannot use the Windows Media Player to render a stream to the same server with the Media Player installed. This is not supported. RESOLUTION The Windows Media Player must be installed on a separate system from all of the other Theater Server systems that are providing the same stream to the rendering client. This rendering client system must be separate from any of the NetShow Theater Server systems, such as the Title Server, Content Servers, or the development system of a combined Title/Content Server.

For your problem, try updating your copy of Media Player to the latest version. If that doesn't work, grab a copy of a program called "Media Player Classic" - it's an open source program that looks like an old version of WMP, but works better.

If that doesn't work, consider that you have something wrong with your Windows install or something wrong with the hardware on your machine.
