I want to how to burn video files onto a cd so that they will play on my dvd player on my TV? I have tried just plain old burning them and it doesn't play, although they'll replay fine on my computer.

generally speaking your DVD player has to be 'CDR-compatible' or it's a no-go. Mere VCD compliant players will only 'pressed' VCD's - something to do with lasers...a couple of suggestions.
1) take your VCD to the nearest hifi store and try it on some other players - see if it's good 2) try burning on a CD-RW - worth a try 3) mention here exactly what model DVD player you have - maybe one the experts will know something

If you have either version 4 or 5 of Easy CD creator, there is a video cd option. The main requirement is that the file format be correct (I'm still exploring the range of what's allowable).

Take a look at VCDHelp.com. This site will show you how to burn a VCD with just about any burning software there is. About 2 days ago, I had never burned a VCD; within 24 hours of finding this site, I was watching VCDs on my TV/DVD player. You can't just burn the movie to CD and have it play on a DVD/VCD player, you have to burn it in VCD format. You need to confirm the following before doing anything: 1) Does your player support VCD? (See VCDHelp.com for a compatibility list) 2) Does your player support CD-R? (See VCDHelp.com for a compatibility list) 3) Does your player support CD-RW? This helps when learning what you are doing !! ;-)
If the above are OK, then do further reading at vcdhelp.com (see Authoring)and use the examples they have there.
