Canon EOS 1000 pop-up flash problems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have purchased an EOS 1000QD body (for a low price!) but the pop-up flash is not functioning! The AF assist is working and the camera display shows the flash is charged but nothing happens when a shot is taken!(well if you look closely you can just see a small amount of flash in the tube. What is the cause and can I repair it myself?

"What is the cause..." - Don't know, but it's probably a bad flash tube, flash capacitor, inverter, step up tranformer, other flash charging circuit or flash control circuit.

"...and can I repair it myself?" - Probably not. If you knew what part to replace, maybe.

I'd get a small Canon 160E or 200E flash to pack around with it. A lot cheaper that trying to fix it.
