What cameras can I use FD lenses with?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread

I "came across" an A1 with a bunch of lenses and filters. Bought the whole package with an aluminum carry case for $100.00. The battery in the camera leaked, damaging the camera, so I'm left with the lenses and filters. One lens is a Vivitar 400MM - see next post if you know how/where to get repaired...

What other cameras can I use these lenses with? with or without adapters?

thanks

Ken,

2 that spring to mind are the Canon F-1 and Canon AE-1.

These FD lenses should be usable with a vast range of Canon manual focus cameras spanning decades. But the best- possibly the best manual focus SLR ever made- is the Canon T-90. I use one of these regularly, and it is a design classic. Merits too numerous to list here, but have a look on the Canon official site!

Sorry about the damage to your A-1. I suggest you consider repairs on it, if they are within reason. I have owned a used one for about 4 or 5 years, and it is an excellent instrument! You will enjoy all its features. Learn to use them all, especially manual mode. I would say you got a good deal for $100.00, even if you have to replace the camera body. I have owned Canon TX, AT-1, and A-! bodies throught the years, and have derived great photographic satisfaction and rugged durability with these bodies. FD lenses will fit these bodies as well as FTb (one body I always wanted, but never got hold of). If you choose not to repair the A-1, consider buying one of these other bodies from a reputable source on E-Bay. Look at the remarks/recommendations for the seller. Items I have purchased (sync cords, flash, flash bracket) are usualy as described, so read entire text and examine picture if available.

Whatever you decide, I wish you many years of service and satisfaction with your Canon camera.
