USSC hot blast 1400 (Heat - Wood)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have a hot blast 1400 and really enjoy it. Has anyone tried to put a heat exchanger on this unit to heat water? I would absolutely love to get out from under the cost of any propane. Please let me know.

Thanks.

Response to USSC hot blast 1400

I have a hot blast add on wood burning furnace 2 years old and was just thinking about the same thing this past week.I need to get the owners manual out and contact the manufacture to see if they carry heat exchangers for them otherwise I have seen them on a web site and it would not be to difficult to install.I am currently waiting to receive our new bosch tankless water heater and would like to hook it into that as a pre heater.Funny the last time the we called for propane this past fall they mentioned that we must be burning wood in the winter and will have to pay a tank rental fee since we did not purchase the minimum amount of gas for free rental, and also recomended we go to a smaller tank.Just love that free wood.I will look for the website that carries the heat exchangers and try to get back and post it on here or e-mail me.Happy holidays.

great. let me know. I was thinking of snaking some 1" copper tubing between the outer shell and the top of the firebox. Plenty of room there, but not sure if it would cause any trouble. We will see, I will wait to hear from you first.
