Long distance calls/cost

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Just wondering is there anyone who sells long distance phone cards for less then 3.4 cents/minute. (Currently at Sam's Club) I am not interested in the ones that charge 50 cents to hook you up each time, I know they are less,(1 cent/ minute), but unless you are going to talk for a long time they are not worth it, and they expire after so many days too. Let me know if anybody can beat this price on 24/7 service. Thanks. (Getting a little cheaper, or as I prefer to think, wiser as I get older)

Talk to you later.

Thanks Laura,

the website is www.getpennytalk.com

They charge $15 to sign up, 99 cents per month and 49 cents per call. I know the way we use the telephone a Sam's Club card is still much cheaper for us at this time.

Your card would be great for someone who makes calls differently than we do. If you talk for a long time for instance, then it would be great.

Do they sell those cards at Super Wally Worlds? I have to go over an hour to a Sam's Club...and don't have the inclination to do that right now!

-- Dreen (bisquit@here.com), December 28, 2001.

Doreen,

I know they sell phone cards at Wal-Mart, but I don't think the rates are as cheap. Check it out. They may still be better than what you are using now. Currently Sam's is at 4.3 cents/minute.

Let us know how you make out.

Talk to you later.

I get 5¢ a minute from MCI whenever, for all out of state calls. In State LD is 7¢ per minute. Now with my lovely phone company, Verizon, if you haven't got a long distance carrier, you can't call 800 numbers. So are the cards applicable to all in state calls as well?

-- Doreen (bisquit@here.com), December 29, 2001.

Doreen,

Most people have a long distance carrier. If you did not choose one yourself you probably have whatever your phone company assigned you.

Yes the Sam's club cards are good for in state AND state to state calls. They can also be used for international calls, but I have never made one so I am not aware of how this works. I assume there are savings there also.

ALL calls made in the US are 3.4 cents/minute and it doesn't matter if you have a long distance carrier or not. At least it does not matter where I am. If you do not have a long distance carrier and really need one, then get one. Then what you want in a long distance carrier is someone who doesn't have a monthly charge. Their cents/minute rate really doesn't matter if you are going to use your card anyway.

Hope this all makes sense to you. If not send me an e-mail. By the way did you get the e-mail I sent you yesterday?

Talk to you later.

I believe I have a five dollar a month requirement with MCI for the 5¢ per minute deal. Pretty much everyone I talk to is long distance so that isn't a problem.

Is your email the one looking for a person's addy? If so, I just wrote you back, if not, then I didn't get it!!!

Thanks for the help on this, I think next time I go to Austin I'll get that phone card. It will at least help a bit!

I'm looking for a good deal in international call.I've been using the Sam's club's cards but I need to get a better deal because I call to Senegal (West Africa) about twice a week. Thanks.

I was given a phone card as a present a year or so ago. It costs 4.2 cents per minute, 24/7 anywhere in the US. NO monthly fee, no hidden charges. One minute minimum charge, so if you're worried about paying 4.2 cents for a message machine, this is not for you.

The card came from Costco. If there is a Sam's Club in Oregon, I am unaware of it.

I like my phone card; when the minutes get low, I call an 800 number, and can add minutes to it on my air miles credit card.

Since the way it works is to dial a big long string of numbers to call to access it, then to add another long string of numbers (the ID number), it would be a real nuisance, if I hadn't put the first string in my phone as an autodial, and the second string as another autodial. Now it's Autodial 9, choose English or Sapnish (Free Spanish practice in my case!), then autodial 0. Then dial the number you want. Boom. No fuss, no muss. Oh, yeah, it tells you how many minutes you have left for the call (Por ejemplo, "Tiene quinientos veinte y cinco minutos desponibles para esta llamada")

What's a Sam's Club? Sam Walden or something?

Thanks, William. I guess we don't rate one here. Too small, perhaps. Oh, well, I'm not that fond of big box stores anyway.

I read all preceding Items on Lg Distance, I have pretty much checked most out, and heres my input. if you want to talk to anyone in the world 24/7 pc to pc (FREE) with worlds #1 voice quality better than telephone then contact me. I have pennycard for those that do not have pc and found it to be best rate for the quality. also I have net2phone for the 2 cents min. anywhere in USA as a very good alternative back up for the preceding two. e-mail me and find out more as I help people with best programs for puter problems and use these to walk them thru the steps.

I'm planning to use a Sam's phone card to call regularly to Italy. I believe the rate exchange for the area is four units from the card's time for every minute of conversation. Does anyone know if this is the correct ratio?

I have been using www.kissld.com for the last 2 years and it works great. Rates are 3c/m 24/7 with a $3 monthly fee. Intern'l rates are great as well.

HI, I'd like to know how much I have to pay for calling to Poland, thanks

-- ewa (evaeic@yahoo.com), August 31, 2003.

You want help with long distance. With www.kissld.com it is .03 cents a minute and three dollars a month. If you e-mail me and use my code it will save me the three dollars a month and when you get someone to connect to them, then they will not charge you any monthly fee. As right now their web site is down but I have a phone number if you would like to call them, just e-mail me and any others who want to help out, we could all get .03 cents a min, in the United States 24/7.on their web site you can get the cost of international calling. You do have to give them the name of your long distant company/ telephone company as they have to notify them of your change over. Do not have any outstanding bills as they will not except you as a customer.

anyone who wants portability and good rates will goto www.onesuite.com. They have 2.9cents a min with a 1-800 number or dial a local access number and get 2.5cents a minute. Minimum purchase is $10 but you can recharge your card anytime online. They also have low rates on international calls.
