Long Distance Calls/Cost

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Just wondering is there anyone who sells long distance phone cards for less then 3.4 cents/minute. (Currently at Sam's Club) I am not interested in the ones that charge 50 cents to hook you up each time, I know they are less,(1 cent/ minute), but unless you are going to talk for a long time they are not worth it, and they expire after so many days too. Let me know if anyubody can beat this price on 24/7 service. Thanks. (Getting a little cheaper, or as I prefer to think, wiser as I get older)

Talk to you later.

I use IPhoneBill for my long distance service, it goes as low as 2.9 cents/minute. No card to hassle with, no per-hookup charges, no paper statement, and they simply charge the balance to my credit card each month. It's been a pretty good deal for us.

This is NOT a long distance-over-the-internet service like Net2phone, which I have also used with some success, but which takes some work to get it to go. Net2phone has been invaluable when I'm traveling outside the country and want to call back to the states for next to nothing.

Good luck

Chuck,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately the places that I need to call, according to the company charts, are considerably above the 2.9 cent advertised rate. Guess I'll stick with Sam's Club. It is far cheaper for me. The card works great for me. I just program the 800 number and the account number into my phone. It makes long distance much easier that way.

Talk to you later.

Hello Bob,

The best deal that we have used is to dial: 10-10-8-11, then the 1, the area code and the number that you are calling. This has allow my wife to call her family in Puerto Rico and Pennslyvania for just pennies!

Sincerely,

Ernest

www.onesuite.com 2.9cents per minute 24hr per day anywhere in the lower 48states. No hookup fee unless you call from a pay phone. you buy however many minutes you want ahead of time with a credit card.

As is often the case, what was a good deal is no longer. I have contracted for long distance service at 6 cents/minute for interstate, intrastate and inter-LATA calls days, nights, weekends, holidays, whenever. I get an incredibly detailed bill, which, while interesting at times, I don't really need. The same company (Choice One Communications) also handles my local phone service at a rate lower than Verizon (f/k/a GTE) had. Overall, I've been very pleased with them.
