EOS 630 flattens battery

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have a 630 but it flattens the battery even when turned off (actually even without the handgrip positioned) (draws 30mA) The camera works excellent except except the backlight fails to come on. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Yup, this is a commonly known problem for this model. The problem with the battery dying early is due to a component failre with the backlight electronics.

Use google or some other search engine to look for EOS 630 and backlight or LCD. There have been mentions of this in several forums over the last few years.

Only solution is to have the defective component replaced (I've read somewhere, can't remember where, that the old EOS-1 backlight electronics can be modified to work). Only other solution is to remove the battery whenever you're not using the camera.
