Cute story...... (Selfless Child)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Well yesterday I took the kids (2 and 5) shopping at Target. We bought their dad a couple of things for Christmas, some socks, a zip up sweat shirt, long sleeve shirt and a light weight rain jacket.

Well at the dinner table I mention to hubby that the kids and I got him a few things for xmas that he needed. He looked a little embarrassed and said that he hasn't gotten us anything. Peter my 5 year old looked at his dad and said "don't worry dad you give us a present every day". Looking a little wary my hubby asked, "and what is that Peter." Peter says, "you spend time with us every day." What a kid, you just can't help but love him. Where in the world does he come up with his material?

Of cause the kids are getting presents, I bought them a couple of things. They are going to share a wooden train set and the older one is getting a computer game he wanted, "Freddi Fish 5". My husband just hates shopping, so that is always left up to me.

Peter is so sweet you just can't wind the kid up. If you tell him he isn't getting any Christmas or birthday presents he just shrugs it off and says things like he's just happy to have a nice family. He's never had a temper tantrum because he couldn't have something and he is very thoughtful. The other day my friend gave him two hard candies and he saved them all day so he let his dad choose which one he wanted.

My son is also very artful at handling teasing, comments and strange looks that people sometimes give him (us). As he (he and I) have Alopecia Universalis (we're completely bald). Anyway if he hears people talking about him in line at the store etc... he goes right up to them and introduces himself and tells them he has Alopecia, that his body is allergic to his hair and so it won't grow. They usually strike up a conversation and Peter has educated yet another person, not to mention made another friend. Sometimes people do the pity thing, how does he feel about not having hair, poor kid type thing. So I tell them, why don't they ask him. He explains that he loves not having hair - no hair to wash, no hair cuts to worry about, will never get head lice etc..... he's such a joy!

Okay, I've bragged enough - I just can't help myself.

What a great story Anita. Thanks for sharing it with us. I don't blame you a bit for bragging on that little man. I do know though that kids who are that thoughtful and caring usually have had some very good examples set by their parents. Give that little one a hug from this old granny, would you? May your family be blessed this Christmas season.

Wow! What a great story. and a great kid. Give him a hug from us all. And kids don't get to be like this naturally. They're raised that way!! You and your hubby take a bow for doing such a great job!! Happiness of the season to you and yours!! Tomas in B.C.

What a great little guy you have there!!! Don't you just feel blessed with him??? He's super and I am sure he gets his wonderful attitude from you.

I too had a child (dd) who was "different" in that she was missing a hand when born. We taught her to be independent and not to expect things from anyone or from life in general. This "difference" has never held her back and she always had a good attitude about life and was a joy to be around.

Kudos to you and your family!!!!
