seed starting and planting site (when to)

This year I'm going to try and get organized and keep track of my garden. I bought me one of those BIG desk type calendars with plenty of room to write thing down. I've really been wanting to plant my garden by the moon phases, so I worte those on the calendar first, for each month. Next, I was wanting to find out when would be the earliest times I could plant seeds, to get the most out of my growing season here. So, here's the web site I found for that. www.chestnut-sw.com You click on growing guide, then click on what season, planting date and then your last spring frost and first fall frost. (I found it on a site, can't recall which one, but your local extension office can also tell you). The only problem I had with this site is, when I put in 2002, their computer didn't recognize it yet. I think theirs is still calculating from 2001 and hopefully it will roll over the 1st of January. But to get around that, I used 2001 as the date on Planting Date. The yearly date really doesn't make much difference, the month and date are the most important. (unless you plant by the moon phases, then I just go to my desk calendar for the specific day.) Here in my zone (7), there are things I can start doing on January 20, but in the past I've always waited until later and then wondered why some crops didn't do as well as I liked! Looking at all these seed catalogs is making me sooooooo anxious for Spring!

Having little experience in your zone, (I'm in 5a)I can link you to this site nonetheless. The table is adaptable to any zone, and the site itself is really neet! Check out his site map.
