What connection does Edgar Allan Poe have with South Carolina? We have searched book after book and cannot figure it out. Thanks for your help.

Poe wrote The Gold-Bug, which was set in Sullivan's Island, near Charleston, South Carolina.He actually lived on Sullivan's Island for about 2 years-- He joined the army at 18, and was a soldier from May 1827 to April 1829. He spent most of that time at Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island.
I'm sure if you look up Sullivan's Island, or Poe's time in the army, you could find a lot more details.
