you can get on a list to stop telemarketing calls, effective April 2002. Go to WTHR.com, then to 'hot topics' scroll down to 'telelmarketer do not call'. It doesn't stop charity calls or ceratin businesses, but most of the annoying sales calls.

I'm not sure all of us get this commercial, but Best Buy is advertising a product called the 'telezapper', a contraption which theoretically automatically removes your phone number from the telemarketer when they call. I guess you operate some switch or something which tells it to put out a signal to do this?

Don't know the cost, yet, but will look really soon. Next to bin lauden, telemarketers are on my short list of 'people you want to really slap hard'.

That is a great post, Cindy. I've done it and can hardly wait to not hear of exciting new long distance calling plans during dinner. ;o)

I've heard of the 'Telezapper' but don't know the pricing, either.

Ah come on Gary, think of all the exciting new septic tank developments you will miss out on, and what about all those great new windows they keep coming up with. Miss out on all of that...what a hard choice to make!!!!! Ha, Ha!!!

And Boy have the marketers been working overtime! All day everyday. I've been asking them if there going to miss me.

As I understand it there are 5 types of businesses that are exempt from this law...................for now. Look for that to change as our represenatives take those dollars for re-election runs.

Did I mention that cynicism of our elected officials is only one of the services we offer? Good post Cindy. Sorry I forgot to do it.

kind of a gimmicky product. There's no guarantee it will remove your number off lists. And it won't keep your number from showing up on new lists. You could do this on your own at no cost to achieve the same results. It sells for $50. This is from their site, telezapper.com;

The TeleZapper uses the technology of telemarketers' automatic dialing equipment against them. When you or your answering machine picks up a call, the TeleZapper emits a special tone that "fools" the computer into thinking your number is disconnected. When the computer hears the tone, it hangs up before you can be connected to a telemarketer and then deletes your phone number from its database. Overtime, as your number is removed from more and more databases, you'll see a dramatic decrease in the number of annoying telemarketing calls you receive.
