New Mamiya Polarizing Filter

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I have a Mamiya MF6 camera and Mamiya said that the new Polarizing filter for the 7 or 7II will fit this. I have a regular filter but becasue these cameras are not SLR's knowing whether you are setting the filters correctly is somewhat tricky. The new ones fit into a frame that goes on the 75mm lens and swings down to focus through it and then swings in front of the lens to take the photo. Have any of you out there used this? and how good (or bad) is it?? I need some input before springing for big bucks for this. Thanks. Edie

Hi,

I shoot with a Mamiya 7II and use the polarizer on occasion. It works fine, and is easy to use. It mounts on any of the lenses and includes an adapter for the smaller ones. You can screw a 77mm filter inside it in the front (in the case of a red filter with the polarizer for infrared photography).

The filter swings up, you peek over the top of the camera, adjust the polarizer, then swing it back into place. The great thing is that it is metered thru the lens. The filter factor is about 1-1/2 stops, so you might need a tripod for slower shutter speeds.

I'd definately recommend it if you use your Mamiya often.

Thanks Les- I am still thinking about it because I use my Mamiya 6MF as my primary camera- in fact have two bodies because I use it for so many situations. Edie
