Permaculture Periodical ? : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone know of a periodical publication devoted to permaculture?

I think from memory it's called "Permaculture International". I'll dig the information out and post it later. In the meantime, try: (David Holmgren was the co-developer, with Bill Mollison, of permacultural principles)

Also, if you can (and if you haven't already) try to get hold of the original books. Amazon can tell you about them, but a lot are out of print. There are web sites devoted to getting out-of-print books and their desirers together - I can't remember the names off-hand, but they get mentioned often here - they're not generally relevant to me since I don't live in North America. Introduction to Permaculture Permaculture 1 : a perennial agricultural system for human settlements

PERMACULTURE: A Designers' Manual

This all sounds like I'm a permacultural junkie or groupie or something. I'm not! What the originators had to say made a lot of sense, although it wasn't bullet-proof. The ideas really ought to be thought about when making any decisions about land-use, but there may be better answers and other situations - those ideas are good starting points, and I'm sure the originators never claimed more. There's a truly excellent low-rainfall effort going on in Western Australia as well - I'll also try to dig out the Web address for that. One of the really good things about the permaculture movement is that it tends to phrase things in terms of principles first, then details. The details may or may not be relevant, but the principles are always applicable.

The magazine I mentioned is no longer being published. However, if you go to

and dig around there, you'll find info on the permaculture movement in the USA, and a quarterly journal you can subscribe to.
