Strange question about drink (Red Dog) (Misc.)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Odd question, but I have my reasons. Does anyone know what type of drink comes in a small bottle with name "Red Dog". Soft drink or contains more potent spirits? Ron

Response to Strange question about drink

I think this is one of those new "energy drinks", heavy on the caffiene and/or pep-you-up herbs. No alcohol in the energy drinks, but when I bartended last year they WERE mixing such drinks with certain types of booze (shots) and "slamming" (gulping in one big drink) them. Also, now that I think of it, isn't there a brand of beer called Red Dog?

It is a beer brand around here. Put out by one of the big nationwide breweries. Same tasteless stuff as the other big mass-marketed brews. There is a red label with a big red bull-dog. The cap is red with a bull-bulldog face as well.

Yupper Red Dog is beer we call it "Bad Dog" as tastless isn't how I'd describe it and I like beers like Guiness, Sleemans etc.

I saw on the news a few weeks ago that Red Dog is an energy drink. If you drink it by itself, it's a kind of stimulant. The big thing at the time though, was to mix it with alcohol, then it would diminish the sedative effect of alcohol, and people were getting drunker and drunker and drunker without passing out. It could be very dangerous if it's used that way. But, as I understand it, Red Dog (not the beer!) does not contain alcohol.

are you guys thinking of Red Bull? An "energy drink" that costs almost $2 each for 8oz. It contains an amino acid Taurine. Along with caffiene. It's marketed big here with the younger crowd and seems to be popular even though it's expensive. But then again so is bottled water at 1.59/16oz. I've tried Red Bull and the effect was almost immediate and a bit more than mild, didn't last long. I drink alot of coffee so I'm sure it was the taurine that gives the stimulant effect. Red Bull has about the caffiene equal to one cup of coffee. There's a bunch of copy-cat drinks now, one called Dark Dog. Maybe Red Dog is a new one.

Red Dog beer should be put back into the dog it came out of.
