How do I make yeast?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Buying yeast in a jar at the store is expensive. Can't I make my own? I know they did as late as early in the last century. If it can be done at home then how do I take care of it? Will I know how much to use? Thanks for any ideas. Susan

Susan,

Sams sells bulk yeast. I get mine at Costco...under $3.00 for 2 lbs. of Red Star yeast and I use a lot of yeast.

You can make your own sourdough starter and keep it going for years. Look in the archives.
