A2E eye control: work with other screens?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Will other focusing screens, available for the EOS 5/A2E, allow the 5 position eye control focus to work? For example, the grid screen is of interest to me, but it doesn't have the 5 focus boxes.

A2E ECF will work with all Ed-"X" focus screens. However, with the accessory screens, the focus point is not distictly illuminated in the viewfinder.

I use the grid screen and it is a wonderful compositional aid for landscape photography. It really helps keep my horizons level and aids in the placement of objects!

However, as you mentioned, it lacks AF rectangles. The red confirmation flash is bearly visible as it reflects off the etched grid lines. It is difficult to tell which sensor flashed. You may disable the red flash with a CF. At first this bothered me (I liked the red flash), but I prefer to use the center cross sensor so it's a minor issue. The straight horizon is a major Godsend for me!
