I am not against Socialism. People working togather for a common good. That is a great thing and needs to be done more. But I am against the idea of it being forced on us by the government. You may be about to post an answer saying nobody is forcing us to do anything, but they are. Through our taxes they are making charitable contributions that may not be true to our morals and values. If you are a Palistinian I dont think that you would like all the money America sends Isreal. And if you are against Abortion you wouldnt like all the money being sent to Womens Clinics. Or Stimulas Packages being given to Big Buisnesses. What we need is to be able to choose what we do with our money.

If they sent you every dime you paid in taxes this year back, what would you do with it? Would you buy yourself a bigscreen TV, thus putting more money into a retail store causing it to do more buisness and creat more jobs. Would you give some to a Privite Charity like the Habitat for Humanity, which does a much better job for less money that the infamously corrupt Housing and Urban Development? Would you put it into a savings account or invest it somehow to help with your retirement? What would you do?

Would any of you send it back to the government to put into SS and other government programs? If taxes were optional, would you pay?

I'd give money to people I know who need it. I have friends who are working so hard to have a place to stay that they can't afford groceries and a phone. I'd rather use my money to give people I know a leg up once in a while.

We got a tax refund from both the feds and the state. Since it was an unexpected windfall for us, we're giving it to the local school system. So are lots of other people, strangely enough. My honey and I thought we were having an original though, and, lo and behold, we found out we weren't alone.

We figure, if the schools are broke, which they usually are, they won't be doing the best job they can at helping to create "good citizens". Seriously.

I just reread my question. I didnt mean the retail store would hire more people. I meant that the TV manufactuers would have to increase supply to keep up with demand and therefore would have to hire more people. More people who wouldnt pay taxes and would go and buy a Big Screen TV! :-)

If the govt. sent back our taxes, they'd go broke! This in turn would fuck up all the things they do with the money. Some of them we like (emergency services) and some of them we don't(High retirement packages for our polititians). So that wouldn't work!!. Now let me ask YOU Tator, 'Do you think that people would be better off if all the decisions were left up to them(us)???', and 'Do you honestly believe that given the opportunity, we(the people) would make all the right choices with our money for the other people?', or 'do you think that people would spend it all on themselves?' Most interesting Question; I would preferer to give my hard earn Taxdollars back to the American People. More so than to give my hard earn Taxdollars blindly to Countrys that use our money to fight Wars, and Oppress inocent people , (Example:(Israel),(Iraq) (Afganistan), Americans should have the right to keep thier Taxdollars , rather than to give it away to countrys that never pay it back in return.So many Americans without properties of their own , due to lose of not being able to pay property taxes. There has to be away for all Americans to keep thier homes with out paying Taxdollars to keep thier inherated properties from thier forefathers.
