I remember being very confused about how on earth Santa could fit down a 4" diameter chimney, and what he would do in our furnace if he did make it down there, and how he knew that our stockings were on the backs of chairs around the tree (since we didn't have a mantle), and how he knew what I wanted even when I didn't tell him and.... You'd think I'd have figured out his non-corporeal existence long before I did!

Tricia, he's past that non-corporeal existence a looooong time ago.

Judging by his girth, he's made sergeant, if not higher, (at least colonel?) by now.
