Where' s the SNOW???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

It isn't in Ohio, although we do have rain in the forecast for later today. The temp. is supposed to drop a little towards the weekend but still milder than normal. Great for the wood-pile! But I like a little snow now and then...

The only time I want to see snow is on Christmas Eve. Then it can go away and we can have Spring!

Response to Where' the SNOW???

I second that motion Ardie. Snow this year will definetly be a downfall this year. To many rides on buses for bad weather. God has been good to us so far this year with all the warm weather.

Melissa, shish, that's a four letter word I don't want to hear yet ;- )!!!

I'll remind of your request when you have gotten tired of wading through it in about a month ;-)!!!

Response to Where' the SNOW???

I just drove my son to early morning seminary in snow. We only got a dusting(so far) this time. But as I told him, I've already seen enough.haha. I know it's just started out here(because we had an ice storm in May right after we moved here, snow on June 13, and again the first week of September!!) We've had a couple of "good" snows, the children have played in it a few times, and as far as I'm concerned(well, being a Central Texas;), summer could come any time.

Response to Where' the SNOW???

Hello Melissa, Last year on this very day (Dec 12th) I woke up to the awning of my camper so full of snow that I could not open the door. I caught us by surprise. We had 12 inches! It also caused us to be snowed in for 23 days since our only exit from our valley is on a northern slope and was to steep to plow. We did not have the vehicles up at the top and the snowplow would not come down due to the steepness of the road. We had to wait it out until about Jan 3-4 until the snowplow could come down and clear it.

We had plenty of food, fuel and feed for the animals as we alsways anticipate emergencies, but, we had planned to go to Florida for the Holidays and could not even get up to the main road!

Today, it is raining and the temperature is in the low forties. No snow in the forecast. Thank Goodness!

Sincerely,

Ernest

71 degrees here in South Texas today. But we are getting webbed feet. Close to 50 inches of rain in the last 7 weeks.

Response to Where' the SNOW???

I wish for snow instead of what we have had all day. Cold, wet ,foggy rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.-

-- Micheale from SE Kansas (mbfrye@totelcsi.net), December 12, 2001.

Response to Where' the SNOW???

Wow Rose, 50 inches of rain. How in the world do you deal with that? Is there a lot of flooding? Around here if we get 4-5 inches of rain there is flooding.

Jo, I'll be there in 24 hours--- We had one good snow fall a few weeks ago and it's all gone now. The weather people keep telling us we're getting more tomorrow, but then tomorrow becomes today and there's still no snow on the ground. I guess it beats getting cabin fever, but I love coming home to a snowman by the front door :)

-- Dawn (olsoncln@ecenet.com), December 12, 2001.

I love snow too! I am tiring of shovelling it. Fortunately, we won't have to shovel it at our homestead!

-- Rick (Rick_122@hotmail.com), December 12, 2001.

Here in my part of southern California we have a good foot plus of snow up in the mountains around here. It's been snowing off and on up there since Thanksgiving weekend. The best part is that it stays up there. If I want snow I can drive 30 miles up there. Down here isn't much of a winter, the grass doesn't even turn brown. Among other places, I've lived in PA, MT, and KS so I've had my share of snow. I don't miss it much ;)

All you "snow" people....please let me know when it gets inside your boots and makes your toes numb, and when you have to shovel tons of it by February and are praying for an early Spring, and when the sun shines on the banks and makes your eyes water, and when you run out of windshield washing fluid and the slush cakes the glass...PLEASE let me know as soon as these things happen to you so then I will remember why we moved to Alabama, why we got so tired of all that snow and then maybe I will not MISS it so much!!!!!!!! I am praying for just a teensy bit of a snowfall this year..one tiny cloud to make it over the beautiful still-green hills and sprinkle a bit of the magic stuff so I can say "ahhh"....God bless.

If you folks want snow, we have lots extra we'd be happy to let you have. We're between 2 mountain ranges here in central B.C. and have had snow on 4 of the last 7 days. Yup! tired of it already. Snow season has just barely begun so looks like a long winter. Glad the woodpile is high. Snow shoes and skis are ready to go and the birds are clamoring for more suet in the feeder. Just a foot of snow on the ground right now but usually average close to 4 feet by winters end. Whoops! Just started snowing again! Gotta go back to work.

Now tomas, we don't want to get carried away!! an inch or two will do for now!!

Melissa, God is being kind and letting it rain here first so as to alleviate our drought conditions. I have NO water in my ponds, which is a first for this time of year in the 12 years I've lived here. The rain that is pattering outside my window now is more than welcome. That said, I have to admit that by the end of last winter when I had shovelled feet of snow forever (it seemed), I was actually getting sick of snow (I had to shovel out my parsnips to dig them up last April), but that was the exception rather than the rule. I love the snow. I love to shovel the snow (most of the time). I love to cross- country ski and sled and skate. We have two small ponds (normally) which we keep shovelled off to skate on all winter. We build snowmen and snow forts and sometimes we even play with the kids in the snow (just kidding...they are as enthusiastic as we are). My daughter's birthday is in February and we usually have a snow party that is outside and includes all types of snow and ice games and activities. Life is too short to hibernate in the winter!

It snowed last night, we got about 3 inches. I don't care how much it snows, just as long as the roads are clear all day Christmas Eve. We are so looking forward to going to Pennsylvania for Christmas!

-- Cathy N. (keeper8@attcanada.ca), December 15, 2001.

About 6 inches and counting .Snow is in the forcast for the next week.

-- Patty {NY State} (fodfarms@hotmail.com), December 18, 2001.

Well Patty, sounds like you are getting a white Christmas! Hope you were ready for it!! Has anyone made an offer on your farm yet?? Just wondered how it was going???
