Good people

There seems to be a lot of sadness and ugly things going on lately-my heart really goes out to the little girl that was abducted, and the War and all that violence. I'd like to share a really possitive thing. I was in a store this morning-A dollar General, and a couple came in with a certificate from social services. They had lost thier home and everything in it to a fire early in the morning. Someone said "Oh how terrible and the mother said-"Oh no, we all got out safe, we just lost things."

The manager of the store said "Get what ever you need." the woman had picked out some bedding and clothing and said "this is all the social services check will cover and the manager said "Make sure you have enough clothes for your family, the store will pick up the rest of the tab" One of the customers in the store passed a hat and took up a collection from people in the store. It was fantasic to see plain, ordinary peope reach out other plain ordinary people with out any thought of reward or recognition or anything.

This is not a story that will ever make the news-though the local radio station did put out a call for help for these folks-it was not, however considered "news". Its good to know that when we seem to be bombarded with dreadful news, there are many more good people doing good things.

Kelly, that's a really wonderful, encouraging moment you shared with us. Mind if I use this in some way as an example?

It is good to know there are still good people out there. I love to hear stories like this.

Thank you, Kelly for writing this. I needed a little boost this morning.

Now those people in the store are people who are truly neighbors.

Sure glad to hear about nice, caring folks!!!

Every time a house burns down or a small child is desperatley sick and the family has no insurance, or is underinsured, an ad and fliers appear all over our small county asking for donations, and they get them. Welfare would be unnecessary here in our county (Monroe) cause we take care of our own, just like it used to be done a hundred years ago.

Oh Kelly, that brought tears to my eyes. I will be in prayer for that family. We hear so much about the bad things, it is good to hear about people helping one another like that. Our local WalMart is good to help people that way too with donations. I have a really soft spot in my hear for Dollar General. I recently purchased some shirts there and when I got home and checked my receipt, I discovered they hadn't charged me for all of them. I went back to the store and took the receipt and told them I wanted to pay for the ones they hadn't charged me for. They said no, you were honest so you got the shirts free! I tried and tried to pay for them but they just wouldn't let me!

I like Dollar General too, Barb!

Annie, the small communities really do stick together don't they. My grandmother used to live close to Woodsfield and she loved it there. I used to like to visit her when she lived in town. It is such a pretty place.

In our area there is a gospel singin' for the family that is in need. The parades are not lead by celebrities but by children who are ill with cancer or the child who was miraculously cured of e coli. What a thrill for the children, people cheer and make a fuss! Often when someone is ill or dies in town all the churches put them on their prayer list(also because everyone is related so if they don't go to your church they do with your kin).
